Storyline of Scam 2003: The Telgi Story
The series unveils the intriguing life of Abdul Karim Telgi, portrayed brilliantly by Gagan Dev Riar. Telgi, a simple fruit seller from Khanpur, finds himself in Bombay due to a job opportunity. Little did he know that his path would soon lead to a massive financial scandal that would make headlines nationwide.
Telgi’s descent into the world of crime begins when he meets Kaushal Jhaveri in prison, where he is serving time for forgery. Together, they embark on a gum wash operation, but Telgi soon realizes it is an unscalable business. Fueled by ambition, Telgi hatches a daring plan to counterfeit stamp papers.
Twists and turns mark his journey to becoming the mastermind of a massive counterfeit operation. He successfully pilfers official stamp papers from trains but faces a significant hurdle: a license to sell them in bulk. Against Kaushal’s wishes, Telgi leverages his political connections to obtain the permit from the Old Customs House. However, his political manoeuvring backfires, and he loses his license. In a heartbreaking turn of events, Kaushal abandons Telgi, feeling betrayed.
Undeterred, Telgi’s determination leads him to a mechanic from Nashik who introduces him to the source of stamp papers – the Nashik Security Press. Telgi meticulously formulates a strategy to gain the trust of the press’s management, facilitating the promotion of their top bureaucrat. With access to the original machines, dyes, and papers, Telgi begins printing counterfeit stamp papers. As his empire expands, he realizes that to dominate the market, he must eliminate his biggest competitor.
Telgi’s journey is marked by manipulation, strategy, and betrayal. He orchestrates the press’s shutdown and disrupts the Old Customs House supply chain, monopolizing the stamp market. His audacious success draws the attention of influential figures, leading him to befriend every new and more influential power player in the state.
